Isack Hadjar criticizes Formula 1 Sprint race format

Red Bull Racing driver Isack Hadjar has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Formula 1 Sprint race format following a challenging Singapore Grand Prix weekend. The French driver reported significant technical difficulties, including car bottoming during free practice, power unit failures, and gearbox issues.

Hadjar argued that the limited practice time inherent in the Sprint format prevents teams from properly adjusting car setups and gathering essential data. He noted that the current structure makes it difficult to optimize performance, stating, “It’s impossible. You just kind of need to get lucky. There’s no work.”

Despite reaching the SQ3 qualifying stage, Hadjar struggled to find a competitive rhythm, ultimately finishing the main Grand Prix in tenth place after a retirement during the Sprint race. He emphasized that while fans may prefer less testing, the ability to work on the car is vital for driver performance and technical development.
