Isakki Subbaya seeks to withdraw resignation as Ambasamudram MLA

Former Ambasamudram MLA Isakki Subbaya has requested the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretary to withdraw his resignation, seeking to continue representing his constituency. Subbaya had previously resigned following the 2026 elections after moving from the AIADMK to the ruling TVK party.

The request comes amid legal challenges in the Madras High Court regarding the acceptance of resignations from six AIADMK MLAs. While Subbaya argues for continued representation, the Assembly Secretariat has maintained that there is no provision to withdraw a resignation once it has been accepted and the seat has been declared vacant. The Election Commission has already published a notification in the official gazette declaring the Ambasamudram seat vacant.

The political situation stems from a split within the AIADMK, where several legislators supported the TVK government during a confidence motion. Following these actions, several MLAs resigned, leading to complaints under the anti-defection law and subsequent legal proceedings.
