Ischia and Sardinia implement regional service updates
In Ischia, the Coast Guard has introduced a new service to simplify biennial medical examinations for mariners. Starting November 1, 2026, local seafarers can complete the necessary health checks for professional fitness directly on the island, eliminating the need to travel to the mainland. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Campania Maritime Directorate, the USMAF-SASN Campania, and local general practitioners to reduce costs and administrative delays for the maritime community.
In Sardinia, uncertainty surrounds the island’s air connectivity as Aeroitalia prepares to withdraw from its service contract. Regional transport consultant Giovanni Dore stated that the region will promptly publish a new tender once the cancellation is official. The new bidding process is expected to account for current jet fuel costs, addressing previous disputes regarding compensation levels. Meanwhile, the airline Volotea has expressed continued interest in the territory, citing Sardinia as a strategic location following its 2021 base opening in Olbia.
