Ischia police launch major security crackdown during summer season

Italian law enforcement authorities have launched intensive security operations on the island of Ischia to address recent crime and maintain order during the peak summer tourist season.

A major crackdown by the Naples Questura and local police resulted in the identification of 804 individuals, including 203 minors. The operation involved checking 266 vehicles and inspecting several commercial establishments, leading to administrative sanctions for various regulatory violations.

In a notable drug enforcement action, Carabinieri utilized electric scooters to navigate narrow coastal paths and reached the San Pietro beach. They apprehended a 36-year-old man from Naples found in possession of 20 grams of hashish and marijuana intended for retail sale. The suspect faces charges for drug possession with intent to distribute and may be subject to an obligatory expulsion order from the island's municipalities.

Additional enforcement actions included the seizure of 30 kilograms of potentially contaminated food at a restaurant in Forio by the NAS, the identification of an unregistered holiday rental, and the arrest of an individual for illegal weapon possession.
