Ischia celebrates 172nd anniversary of port inauguration

Ischia is celebrating the 172nd anniversary of the official inauguration of its port with the Festa del Porto. The event commemorates the transformation of the ancient Lago de’ Bagni, a project ordered by Ferdinando II di Borbone, which was officially inaugurated on September 17, 1854.

The celebrations include a historical parade featuring the King and his court in period clothing, traveling from the Banchina Olimpica to the Palazzo Reale. Festivities in Piazza Antica Reggia will feature the traditional ‘Spaghettata del Re,’ accompanied by live music and dance from performers such as Trio Flegreo and Mediterranean music ensembles.

The evening program includes ‘San Carlo on the Sea’ at 21:00, featuring the Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo, followed by a grand pyromusical finale at 22:20. The port will be decorated with scenic lighting to transform the waterfront into a stage.
