Ischia: Carabinieri seize illegal cliffside construction in Forio

Carabinieri have seized an illegal construction site located on a cliff in the Panza area of Forio, Ischia. The discovery was made during an aerial surveillance operation conducted by the Carabinieri Helicopter Nucleus of Pontecagnano.

Authorities confirmed that the works were being carried out without the necessary permits and in violation of landscape protection constraints. The property is linked to a Swiss architect. Investigations revealed irregularities in two separate buildings. One structure, which had previously faced seizures in the 1980s, had been partially demolished and rebuilt with reinforced concrete, including an unauthorized 75-square-meter basement. The second building involved unauthorized works on a basement that had been subject to criminal seizure in 2016.

In a separate development regarding Ischia's reconstruction, the Ischia Engineers Association has called for increased collaboration following tensions with the extraordinary reconstruction commissioner, Marcello Feola. The dispute arose after Feola made comments regarding professional fees, which local professional groups, including PIDA, contested by defending the dignity and necessity of technical work in the island's recovery efforts.
