Ischia municipality launches night‑time monitoring of unaccompanied minors
The Comune di Ischia, acting as lead authority of the social‑service area N13, has started a structured night‑time monitoring programme for minors who are out without parents or other adults. The service, running from August to October 2026, covers Ischia and the neighbouring towns of Forio, Lacco Ameno and Casamicciola Terme, with a total of 200 monitoring hours (104 in Ischia, 32 in each of the other three municipalities). It is carried out by Socrate Società Cooperativa Sociale Onlus, which already provides professional social‑service staff in the area, for a fee of €5,836.40 including VAT.
The initiative was prompted by municipal police commander Chiara Romano, who called for closer cooperation between police officers and social‑service teams to address growing reports of youths gathering in nightlife zones, causing noise, vandalism and safety concerns. Police and Carabinieri have already identified 24 young people, many of them minors, and dispersed a group of about 50 youths in locations such as Corso Vittoria Colonna, the Mandra, Via Iasolino, Piazza degli Eroi, Via Francesco Buonocore and the port area. The programme aims to detect early signs of social vulnerability, collect data on the phenomenon and trigger professional interventions when needed.
