iShares ETFs diverge: clean energy down, semiconductor up

The iShares Global Clean Energy ETF fell 13.03% over the past 30 days, closing at $17.55. Despite record quarterly results from Brookfield Renewable Partners – which posted a 13% rise in Funds from Operations and announced a significant increase in debt – and near‑target earnings from Enphase Energy, the fund’s composition, dominated by holdings such as Bloom Energy and First Solar, could not offset broader weakness.

In contrast, the iShares MSCI Global Semiconductors UCITS ETF rallied 8.69% in a single day to €16.22, though it remains down 18.18% over the same 30‑day window and far from its 52‑week high. The surge was linked to strong Microsoft earnings, cloud‑related demand and a broader chip‑sector rebound, following a recent sell‑off triggered by the Shanghai IPO of Chinese memory‑chip maker CXMT and concerns over competition. The sell‑off had erased about $1.3 trillion in market value from the 20 largest chip companies, with NVIDIA alone losing $238 billion.
