Ishikawa Prefecture achieves top national academic rankings

Ishikawa Prefecture has achieved a ‘triple crown’ in the latest National Assessment of Academic Ability, ranking first in Japanese and Mathematics for both sixth-grade elementary and third-grade junior high students. The prefecture has maintained a top position in mathematics for six consecutive years.

This success is attributed to the ‘Ishikawa method,’ a collaborative initiative with Kanazawa University started in 2009. The program involves analyzing test results to identify challenges and deploying university faculty to local schools to improve instructional methods. Survey data shows that Ishikawa schools utilize previous test results to improve educational activities at significantly higher rates than the national average.

In a separate educational development, Clark Memorial International High School held an academic competition across its campuses for Japanese, Mathematics, and English. The event aimed to help students assess their current proficiency and set future learning goals, with individual awards presented to high-achieving students.
