Ishikawa Prefecture marks two years since Noto rain disaster

Residents of Ishikawa Prefecture observed a moment of silence on Monday to mark the second anniversary of the torrential rains that struck the northern Noto Peninsula. The disaster resulted in 21 deaths, with 16 direct fatalities and five deaths attributed to disaster-related causes.

Flower-offering stands were established at six locations across the prefecture, including the cities of Wajima and Suzu. Ishikawa Governor Yukiyoshi Yamano laid flowers at the prefectural government building in Kanazawa, stating that the government will work toward reconstruction by listening to the needs of those in affected areas.

The scale of property damage included 1,906 homes, of which 83 were completely destroyed and 659 were partially damaged. As of September 1, the impact of the disaster persists, with 381 individuals from 165 households still residing in temporary housing.
