Ishinomaki Civic Symphony Orchestra celebrates 50th anniversary with concert

The Ishinomaki Civic Symphony Orchestra will hold a commemorative concert on November 1 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The event will take place at the Maruhon Maki Art Terrace Grand Hall in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

The orchestra, which traces its roots back to the Ishinomaki Civic Orchestra founded in 1956 and officially formed in 1976, has navigated challenges including the Great East Japan Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. The upcoming performance will be conducted by Masaki Imura and features concertmaster Yasushi Hasegawa from the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra.

The program includes Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Symphony No. 5. The opening will feature a large-scale performance of “Ishinomaki, My Hometown,” involving approximately 120 singers from the Ishinomaki Choral Federation. The concert is part of the Toyota Community Concert series.
