Ishraq Hossain resigns as State Minister for Liberation War Affairs

Ishraq Hossain, the State Minister for Liberation War Affairs and BNP Member of Parliament for Dhaka-6, has resigned from his position following controversy surrounding his involvement in an anti-drug operation in Gendaria. During the operation, Hossain was seen carrying a firearm, which sparked significant debate in both domestic and international media.

Hossain announced his resignation at a press conference at the National Press Club, stating that he decided to step down following discussions with the Prime Minister to prevent the situation from becoming “embarrassing” for the government. While he maintained that he committed no wrongdoing during the operation, he expressed his intention to continue fighting drug trafficking as a BNP activist rather than a government official.

This resignation marks the third departure from the current cabinet since the government was formed under Tarique Rahman's leadership in February. He follows Zahir Uddin Swapon, who was moved to an advisory role in August, and Dipen Dewan, who resigned in June citing health reasons.
