ISI tightens security around LeT founder Hafiz Saeed

Indian security agencies have assessed that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has significantly increased security measures around Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed. The heightened security follows multiple alleged assassination attempts against Saeed, who is currently serving a sentence in Pakistan for terror financing.

Reports indicate that the ISI has increased manpower around Saeed’s location and implemented strict scrutiny for individuals permitted to meet him. Due to increased threat perceptions, Saeed’s movements have been restricted; he has reportedly ceased in-person meetings with cadres and visits to training or radicalization camps, opting instead to communicate via audio messages.

While Pakistan maintains that Saeed has been held in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail since 2019, Indian officials allege he operates from fortified locations in Lahore. The security escalation comes as LeT reportedly attempts to rebuild its network following losses during Operation Sindoor, which included the destruction of its primary training facility in Muridke.
