Isis Valverde to star in musical adaptation of Hilda Furacão

Brazilian actress Isis Valverde is adapting the novel ‘Hilda Furacão’ by Roberto Drummond into a musical theater production. Valverde, who has a 20-year career, has acquired the rights to the work to portray the lead character, Hilda Müller.

Set in Belo Horizonte during the 1960s, the story follows a socialite who enters the city's bohemian district and becomes involved with a seminarian. Valverde noted that the project is a long-held dream inspired by watching the 1998 television adaptation as a child. She expressed a deep connection to the character's struggle against a patriarchal society and her pursuit of autonomy.

The actress also linked the themes of the play to her own upbringing in Minas Gerais, citing her mother and grandmother as inspirations for her views on female independence and the importance of financial freedom.
