Iskander-1000 missile used in first combat strike on Kyiv
The Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has reported the first combat use of the modernized 9M723-2 ballistic missile, unofficially referred to as the Iskander-1000, during recent strikes on Kyiv. This upgraded version features a larger engine and launcher, extending its operational range to approximately 550 kilometers, compared to the 390-kilometer range of the standard Iskander-M.
Intelligence analysis indicates the missile includes a module designed to release decoys during flight, a tactic intended to overwhelm air defense systems like the Patriot. GUR also released technical data identifying 140 components within the missile, noting that only about one-quarter of these parts are produced by Russian companies, with significant reliance on foreign technology.
Separately, Kyiv experienced a record-breaking period of air raid sirens, with 13 alarms announced in a single 24-hour period. These attacks, involving drones and missiles, caused injuries to at least four people and damaged residential buildings, schools, and infrastructure near the capital.
