Iskenderun Technical University students develop AI building monitoring system

Students from Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) who were affected by the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in Hatay have developed an artificial intelligence-supported device named “AURACORE” to monitor building structural integrity.

Led by Professor Abdulla Sakallı, the ISTEM team includes students Akın Tanrıverdi, Abdulsamed Önder, Ali Attar, Berk Kılınç, and Vahit Can Ezircan. The device is designed to analyze moisture levels, stress, bending, and the overall strength of concrete in building columns. By calculating fatigue and deformation coefficients through AI, the system provides data on whether a building is at risk of collapse and how it might fail, allowing for informed decision-making before a disaster occurs.

The project earned second place in the “Smart Cities and Transportation” category at TEKNOFEST, held at Şanlıurfa GAP Airport from September 30 to October 4. The team is currently continuing to refine the device at the university’s Technopark.
