İSKİ denies claims of sewage contamination in Istanbul water
İSKİ, the water administration for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has denied social media claims alleging that sewage has mixed with the city's drinking water supply. The organization stated that such claims do not reflect reality.
According to İSKİ, the quality of the approximately 3.2 million cubic meters of drinking water provided daily is monitored at every stage from the source to the end consumer. Water samples are analyzed in accredited laboratories in accordance with the ‘Regulation on Water for Human Consumption’ issued by the Ministry of Health. Additionally, water quality parameters are tracked 24/7 through online monitoring systems.
İSKİ further noted that the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate conducts regular, independent audits by taking water samples from various points across the city's 39 districts. The administration emphasized that water failing to meet the quality criteria established by current legislation is not supplied to the city's drinking water network.
