İSKİ denies claims of wastewater discharge causing pollution in Ambarlı
The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) has issued a formal denial regarding allegations that marine pollution at the Avcılar Ambarlı Coast is caused by the Ambarlı Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. The agency stated that claims suggesting untreated wastewater is being discharged into the sea are untrue.
İSKİ reported that the facility, which has been in service since 2012, serves the districts of Beylikdüzü, Esenyurt, Avcılar, and Başakşehir. The plant currently has a daily treatment capacity of 400,000 cubic meters and operates in compliance with established legal standards.
To ensure quality, the treated water is monitored 24/7 via online systems and is subject to regular inspections by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Additionally, İSKİ announced that a tender process is underway for a second phase of investment intended to increase the facility's daily capacity from 400,000 to 1 million cubic meters to meet growing regional demand.
