Isla de la Juventud solar park nears completion

The construction of the Universidad 2 photovoltaic solar park in Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, is entering its final phase. The project has a capacity of 5 megawatts (MW) and includes a battery accumulation system to support electrical stability in the territory.

Expected to be completed in the first half of September, the project is being developed in collaboration with the Universidad Jesús Montané Oropesa. It is part of a national strategy to diversify energy sources and reduce fuel consumption. Despite challenges regarding fuel supplies, work has continued by prioritizing tasks that do not require intensive energy use.

Technical progress includes the completion of 348 photovoltaic tables, each capable of supporting 26 panels, as well as the installation of perimeter fencing and lighting. Foundations for inverter containers are ready, and equipment is on-site. The project involves over 200 workers from state and private companies across several provinces, including Villa Clara, Granma, and Cienfuegos.
