Isla Mujeres launches construction of new Paseo de las Sirenas promenade

The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has begun building a new stretch of the eastern malecón called the Paseo de las Sirenas. The project aims to modernise the iconic waterfront, adding a peace obelisk, Caribbean‑style commercial kiosks, upgraded public restrooms, decorative sculptures, benches, ornamental anchors, photo‑friendly seating and picnic tables.

According to officials, the improvements are intended to create a safer, more accessible and attractive space for residents and visitors, strengthening the island’s tourism infrastructure and contributing to orderly, clean public spaces.

The construction reflects the administration’s broader effort to invest in public works that promote tourism, community wellbeing and shared prosperity across the municipality.
