Isla Mujeres wins Leading Island Destination award for third time

Isla Mujeres has been named the Leading Island Destination of Mexico and Central America at the 2026 World Travel Awards. This marks the third time the destination has received this international recognition, following its win in 2025.

To secure the award, Isla Mujeres competed against six other regional destinations, including Cozumel and Holbox in Mexico; Ambergris Caye in Belize; Isla Coiba in Panama; Roatán in Honduras; and Little Corn Island in Nicaragua.

The municipal government, led by acting president Isla del Mar Magaña López, stated that the award reflects the destination's natural beauty, quality of tourism services, and the collaborative efforts of local hotel workers, restaurateurs, and merchants. The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, recognize excellence in the global tourism industry through an international voting process.
