Islamabad container standoff causes Rs. 280 million in losses

Transporters in Islamabad are demanding approximately Rs. 280 million in compensation due to nearly 1,000 shipping containers being detained for roughly two weeks. The containers, which have been used as roadblocks at various intersections to control access to the capital amid planned political marches, are causing daily losses estimated at Rs. 20,000 per container.

The All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association reports that these delays include daily demurrage and detention charges. Advocate Muhammad Owais Chaudhry has highlighted that the containers hold goods worth millions of rupees, including essential medicines. He has urged authorities to immediately release containers carrying critical supplies to prevent further economic impact on businesses and consumers.

Transporters are calling for the government to establish a transparent compensation process and to engage directly with representatives to calculate and settle the financial burden caused by the prolonged detention of commercial equipment.
