Islamabad faces rising crime wave and illegal settlements

Islamabad is experiencing a significant surge in street crime and robberies, leading residents to express concern over the city's declining safety. Recent incidents include the armed robbery of a shopkeeper and a senior journalist in the G-11/1 sector.

Citizens have attributed the deteriorating law and order situation to inadequate police patrolling and alleged political interference in police leadership appointments. Much of the criminal activity is reportedly linked to illegal settlements, specifically the Mehrabadi settlement in Sector G-12, which residents describe as a ‘no-go area’ for law enforcement.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has faced ongoing challenges in managing these encroachments, with previous attempts to demolish illegal structures resulting in violent clashes. Additionally, delays in handing over land in Sector G-14/1 to rightful allottees have caused long-term frustration among residents.
