Islamabad imposes complete ban on shisha cafes

Islamabad authorities have imposed an immediate and indefinite ban on all shisha cafes in the federal capital. The decision follows directives from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requiring the district administration to formulate formal regulations for such establishments within one month.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon stated that the ban applies to all types of shisha cafes, including those operating in indoor or outdoor spaces and those currently holding no-objection certificates (NOCs). Authorities warned that any violations would result in the sealing of the premises and the registration of criminal cases against owners.

During the proceedings, IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar noted that the lack of existing regulations was detrimental to the public. The court expressed concerns regarding the impact on younger generations and the presence of minors at some establishments. Additionally, administration officials cited public health risks and fire hazards associated with stored coal and equipment as primary concerns.
