Islamabad ranks 83rd in global safety index

Islamabad has ranked 83rd out of 401 cities in a global safety index, placing the Pakistani capital ahead of major international cities such as London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow, and Istanbul.

According to the Islamabad police, the force achieved a 100 percent detection rate for homicide cases reported this year. Data indicates that property crime decreased by 27 percent in 2026 compared to 2025, representing a reduction of 1,499 incidents. Other crimes, including robbery, dacoity, murder, and vehicle theft, also saw declines.

To enhance security, the police have implemented several specialized units, including SWAT, Delta Force, a K-9 explosives detection unit, and a Special Protection Unit for Chinese nationals. Technological upgrades include an AI-based hunch lab and an upgraded Safe City system featuring virtual patrolling and cybersecurity projects. Additionally, the police have modernized stations through the Special Initiative Police Station project and established a Foreign Media Cell to improve international communication.
