Islamic science students call for protection of Bosnian religious heritage
Students from the Faculty of Islamic Sciences have submitted a formal letter to the Rijaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, calling for a systematic response to what they describe as increasing attacks on traditional Islamic heritage.
The students expressed concern regarding the public questioning of the Hanafi madhhab and Maturidi aqidah, which have formed the foundation of Islam in Bosnia and Herzegovina for centuries. They argue that these traditions are being labeled as innovations or errors by certain groups, and they are urging religious authorities to defend this institutional and intellectual legacy.
The letter emphasizes that the goal is not to create conflict or demand a new faith, but to prevent the silence of the Islamic Community while traditional practices are being challenged. The students specifically warned against the practice of takfir—declaring other Muslims to be unbelievers—noting that such rhetoric has serious implications for the community.
