Islamic traditions regarding Prophet Muhammad's life and legacy
In observance of Maulid Nabi, Islamic traditions regarding the Prophet Muhammad are highlighted through religious texts and historical accounts. Surah Yunus verse 58 is frequently cited as a scriptural basis for celebrating the Prophet's presence, as it instructs believers to rejoice in the grace and mercy of Allah. Interpretations of this verse vary among scholars; some view the grace as Islam and the mercy as the Qur’an, while others, citing Ibnu Abbas, define Allah’s grace as knowledge and His mercy as the Prophet Muhammad.
Historical accounts also detail the circumstances surrounding the Prophet's passing and burial. Following his death in 11 Hijri, the Prophet was washed by Ali bin Abi Thalib, Usamah, and Al-Fadhl. After a discussion among companions regarding a burial site, it was decided that he be interred where he passed away, which was in the room of his wife, Aisyah. This decision followed the guidance that a prophet should be buried in the place of his death.
