Island Biennale launches public art contest for Chungcheongnam-do residents

The Island Biennale Organizing Committee has announced the ‘Memories of the Island’ public art contest, a participatory project ahead of the inaugural Island Biennale scheduled to begin on April 3, 2027.

Open to all residents of Chungcheongnam-do, the contest invites submissions in four categories: toddlers, youth, adults, and persons with disabilities. Participants can express their memories, daily lives, and landscapes of Boryeong and the West Sea islands through various mediums, including drawings, handwriting, and photography.

Approximately 1,000 selected works will be produced as art tiles and permanently installed on the outdoor walls of the Biennale Plaza at the Island Culture and Arts Platform, which is expected to be completed in December. The project aims to create an open museum that connects the local community with the Biennale. Winners will receive two admission tickets to the 2027 Island Biennale.

The first-ever Island Biennale will take place over two months at Wonsando and Godae-do in Boryeong, featuring works from approximately 70 artists representing 24 countries.
