Island Health and CRHD to explore Oak Bay Lodge redevelopment

Island Health and the Capital Regional Hospital District (CRHD) have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the potential redevelopment of the former Oak Bay Lodge site over the next two years.

The site, a former seniors home, has been vacant since 2020 and was demolished in 2022 after residents were relocated to The Summit long-term care home. The new agreement establishes a collaborative planning framework to evaluate if the property can support future health and community services to meet regional needs.

Island Health clarified that the memorandum does not approve a redevelopment project, establish a budget, or commit capital or operating funding. Any future proposals would require additional planning, partner participation, funding approvals, and provincial endorsement. An economic feasibility study on the site was commissioned earlier this year.
