Islands of Lake Garda

Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, features several notable islands, including Isola del Garda and Isola dell'Olivo.

Isola del Garda, also known as Isola Borghese, is the largest island in the lake. Located near Salò, it has a history dating back to Roman times when it served as a site for temples and villas. The island has religious significance, having hosted a hermitage founded by Francis of Assisi and a Franciscan monastery. Currently, the island is privately owned by the Cavazza family and is accessible only via guided tours. It is noted for its botanical diversity, including several gardens and a nature park.

Isola dell'Olivo is a smaller, uninhabited island located near Malcesine. While it no longer contains olive trees, it is a popular spot for swimmers and divers, and serves as a landmark during the Centomiglia del Garda sailing regatta.
