Islantilla pushes for safer pedestrian crossings on A‑5054 after recent fatal accident
The Mancomunidad de Islantilla, which administers the tourist enclave shared by the municipalities of Isla Cristina and Lepe, has asked the Junta de Andalucía to improve safety at two pedestrian crossings on the A‑5054 road near Urbasur and the Paseo de las Cumbres. The request follows a pedestrian fatality that occurred on Monday.
Since 2021 the Mancomunidad has submitted technical proposals, including removal of architectural barriers, better horizontal and vertical signage, installation of balizamiento, increased lighting and possible protective barriers. The regional road service said the locations are still under study and has not approved the measures, with a response issued in 2025 and no progress made. The Mancomunidad warned that “it is not possible to keep delaying a solution that citizens have demanded for years and that is essential for the physical integrity of pedestrians and drivers.”
