Isle of Wight fly-tipping incidents fall by nearly 30 per cent
Recorded fly-tipping incidents on the Isle of Wight have decreased by nearly 30 per cent during the first quarter of 2026/27. According to a report from the Isle of Wight Council, 145 incidents were documented between April and June, down from 198 during the same period in the previous year.
The reduction of 53 incidents is attributed primarily to fewer reports on highways and public rights of way. While household waste remains the most common type of deposited material, there has been a significant decline in instances involving black bag rubbish.
However, the council noted that while the frequency of incidents has dropped, the scale of remaining deposits has increased. A higher proportion of reports now involve larger, transit van-sized loads, which continue to require significant officer intervention and clearance. The Environment and Community Protection Committee will review these findings at a meeting on Thursday, September 24.
