Ismael Burgueño Ruiz expected to return as Tijuana mayor

Ismael Burgueño Ruiz is expected to return to his position as the mayor of Tijuana at any time. Acting mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado stated that the reincorporation will be formalized once Burgueño Ruiz officially notifies the City Council.

Burgueño Ruiz had previously taken an indefinite leave of absence on June 21 to pursue the Morena party candidacy for the governorship of Baja California in the 2027 elections. Following his departure, Gutiérrez Coronado assumed the role of acting mayor.

Gutiérrez Coronado noted that he is awaiting a specific date for the transition and intends to ensure the process is orderly. While the acting mayor highlighted the continuity of municipal programs and security coordination during his tenure, local councilwoman Gina Arana raised concerns regarding pending mobility projects left unresolved during Burgueño Ruiz's absence.
