Mexican political parties advance leadership selections for 2027 elections

Mexican political parties are intensifying internal processes and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections. In Morena, the party is defining state coordinators for several entities, including Chihuahua, Nuevo León, and Sonora. In Baja California, Julieta Ramírez Padilla has been designated as the state coordinator, a move that has faced internal challenges and legal impugnation by Evangelina Moreno Guerra. Meanwhile, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño, after losing the state-level coordination race, has expressed interest in seeking municipal re-election or participating in the upcoming municipal coordination process.

In Zacatecas, the PRI is consolidating its strategy. National PRI leader Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas has officially designated Adolfo ‘Fito’ Bonilla Gómez as the coordinator for the Defense of Zacatecas. Bonilla Gómez has signaled his intention to run for governor in 2027, aiming to build a broad opposition coalition including the PAN and PRD to challenge Morena's dominance in the state.
