İsmail Nezir wins bronze at European Athletics Championships

Turkish athlete İsmail Nezir won a bronze medal in the men's 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships held in Birmingham, England. Nezir completed the race with a time of 48.26 seconds, following a personal best of 48.16 seconds in the semifinals.

The 2026 championships concluded with Turkey fielding its largest delegation to date, consisting of 50 athletes. Beyond Nezir's podium finish, the event saw significant performances from the Turkish team, including five national records set during the sixth day of competition. Notable achievements included Salih Korkmaz, Meryem Bekmez, and Hayrettin Yıldız setting records in race walking, as well as Ayşe Aslan and Esma Öztekin setting records in marathon walking.

Other notable placements included Can Özüpek and Tuğba Danışmaz finishing 5th in their respective triple jump events, and Esra Türkmen finishing 6th in the javelin throw.
