ISO 9001:2026 standard introduces new quality management requirements

The new ISO 9001:2026 edition, published on September 16, 2026, introduces updates to the international standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). Replacing the 2015 version, the sixth edition maintains core principles such as customer focus, process approach, and continuous improvement, while increasing emphasis on technological evolution, sustainability, and operational continuity.

Key updates include a stronger focus on leadership and the promotion of a widespread quality culture and ethical behavior. The new standard also provides a clearer distinction between managing risks and managing opportunities.

Companies currently holding ISO 9001:2015 certifications have a three-year transition period, which lasts until September 16, 2029. During this time, existing certifications remain valid. To assist with this transition, organizations like Confartigianato Imprese Bergamo are offering training courses to help businesses evaluate their current compliance and plan necessary organizational adjustments.
