ISO and UNDP launch first international standard for Sustainable Development Goals
At the ISO General Assembly held in Paris, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly launched ISO/UNDP 53001. This is the first voluntary international standard specifically designed to help organizations integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their governance, strategy, and operations.
The new standard provides a framework for companies to translate sustainability ambitions into measurable actions by analyzing their context, prioritizing impacts, and managing associated risks and opportunities. It aims to harmonize practices between governments and the private sector globally.
During the same assembly, the National Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control (ANM) of Benin signed a technical cooperation agreement with Mauritania’s National Office of Standardization and Metrology (ONANOR). The partnership focuses on legal and industrial metrology, including the verification of electricity and water meters, fuel dispensers, and prepackaged products, as well as the harmonization of standards for commercial goods exchanged between the two nations.
