ISO and UNDP launch new standard for Sustainable Development Goals

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have launched ISO/UNDP 53001, a new management system standard designed to help organizations integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their governance, strategy, and operations.

The standard provides a framework for organizations to identify and assess their impacts, engage with stakeholders, set meaningful SDG objectives, and collect data to evaluate progress. It aims to translate the global vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into actionable corporate processes.

In practice, companies like Hydro are already aligning corporate social responsibility strategies with specific UN goals. For instance, Hydro has focused on quality education, decent work, and peace and justice through initiatives such as the Sustainable Barcarena Initiative, which involves community investment to address human development challenges in Brazil.
