ISO and UNDP launch new sustainability management standard
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have published ISO/UNDP 53001, the first management system standard designed to integrate the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into organizational structures.
The standard provides a structured approach for embedding environmental, social, and economic goals into corporate governance, strategy, and operational processes. By following the harmonized structure used in other ISO management system standards, it can be integrated into existing quality, environmental, or energy management systems.
According to Sara Brandimarti, Global Head of Sustainability at TÜV SÜD, the framework helps organizations move beyond individual projects or reporting requirements to systematically consider sustainability in daily decision-making and management processes.
