Isola Comacina management tender enters final stages

Four groups are competing in a project financing tender to manage and revitalize Isola Comacina, the only island on Lake Como. The project includes the redevelopment of the island and the management of its historic inn and bar.

The contenders include the wellness and hospitality group QC Terme, alongside entrepreneurs Vincenzo Dascanio, Giovanni Costantino, and Mikhail Kusnirovich. The competition is occurring amidst a significant expansion of the hospitality market in the Lake Como region, which currently attracts 30% of Italian resort investments.

The island is managed by the Fondazione Isola Comacina, which includes representatives from the Accademia di Brera, the Soprintendenza, the Municipality of Tremezzina, the Province of Como, and Belgian institutions. The potential for the new concessionaire to host events, such as weddings and film sets, has sparked debate regarding environmental preservation. Darko Pandakovic, president of the Como section of Italia Nostra, has criticized the process, describing it as an “aggressione edilizia” (building aggression) and expressing concerns over the balance between tourism valorization and the protection of a fragile historical and archaeological site.
