Isola del Giglio focuses on tradition and sustainable tourism
Isola del Giglio, located in Tuscany, is maintaining its identity through local traditions and a focus on sustainable, slow tourism. The island, which features a medieval village and a National Park, has recently been recognized as an UN Best Tourism Village.
Upcoming cultural and community events include a solidarity event in Giglio Castello on August 28, 2026, featuring traditional food and music to conclude a month-long campaign. Additionally, the Festa dell'Uva e delle Cantine is scheduled for September 24–27, 2026, in Giglio Castello. This festival will showcase local Ansonaco wine and traditional dishes within historic cellars.
Despite its popularity, the island faces challenges regarding seasonal tourism, transportation costs, and the need to extend the visitor season beyond the peak summer months to ensure long-term sustainability for residents and property owners.
