Isola di Schola redevelopment project sparks debate in Marsala
In Marsala, the proposed redevelopment of Isola di Schola within the Laguna dello Stagnone has sparked debate between local administration and environmentalists. Daniele Nuccio, the Councilor for Environmental Policies, stated that the project aims to protect the area from neglect rather than alter its ecosystem. The administration intends to transform the island into an environmental education hub involving universities and research centers to promote sustainable tourism.
Nuccio described the opposition from Legambiente Marsala-Petrosino as ‘unmotivated alarmism,’ arguing that environmental protection should not mean stagnation. The broader redevelopment plan includes waste removal, enhancing public greenery, and valorizing historical sites such as Villa Cavallotti.
