Isola di Vivara State Nature Reserve signs new management convention
A new convention was signed on October 9, 2026, between the Isola di Vivara State Nature Reserve and the Ministry of the Environment. This agreement establishes the framework for managing the protected area, defining roles, responsibilities, and tools for environmental protection and public use.
The convention renews the management committee's role as the governing body and grants the Reserve President a central function in institutional representation and coordination with the Ministry and other entities. This agreement follows a delay from a 2019 ministerial decree. Rosalia Santoro, appointed president on March 26, 2026, completed the bureaucratic process in less than six months.
Key objectives include environmental protection, scientific research, environmental education, and regulated public access. The agreement also emphasizes collaboration with the Campania Region and the Municipality of Procida to ensure constructive dialogue regarding the area's preservation and valorization. The convention is valid for five years with the possibility of renewal.
