Israel and European Union celebrate 30 years of scientific cooperation

Israel and the European Union recently commemorated 30 years of scientific and research cooperation during a ceremony in Jerusalem. Since Israel began participating in European research programs in 1996, the partnership has produced more than 5,000 joint projects.

Israel is an associated country in the Horizon Europe program, which has a budget of €95.5 billion for the 2021-2027 period. Participation has involved over 6,000 Israeli researchers and 1,000 companies. Recent collaborations include advancements in water technology, agriculture, medical research, and advanced technologies.

Israeli Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology Gila Gamliel and EU Ambassador Michael Mann highlighted the economic and social benefits of this relationship. President Isaac Herzog noted that scientific cooperation serves as a point of continuity and a way to maintain links between nations even during periods of diplomatic tension.
