Israel and Hamas Agree on Weapon Hand‑over in Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Hamas announced it is prepared to hand over its weapons to a Palestinian authority as part of the second phase of the Gaza cease‑fire agreement. The declaration sparked mixed reactions in Israel, with former security officials urging caution and questioning the credibility of Hamas’s commitments, while some politicians and media figures dismissed the proposal as a political illusion.

The agreement, outlined by Hamas and referenced by U.S. President Donald Trump, calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups, and the creation of a Gaza Peace Committee to oversee weapon registration. An international stabilization force (ISAF) and a new Palestinian police unit are slated to maintain security after the Israeli pull‑out. Hamas said it will discuss implementation details with mediators from Egypt, the United States, Qatar and Turkey in upcoming talks in Cairo, warning that Israel must honor its obligations for the deal to proceed.
