Israel approves infrastructure rehabilitation in eastern Rafah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have reportedly approved the start of infrastructure rehabilitation works in eastern Rafah. The plan targets the area known as "Green Rafah," a zone under full IDF control where terrorist infrastructure and tunnels have been cleared.

The project aims to establish a residential area for Palestinians that operates independently of Hamas control. The initial phase involves earthworks and the installation of water, electricity, and sewage systems. Palestinian contractors and workers from the Gaza Strip are expected to participate, pending security screening by the Shin Bet.

While reports suggest a major move toward rehabilitation, the Prime Minister's Office has contested the characterization of these reports. The office stated that the reports "distort the facts," clarifying that a pilot project involving the United Arab Emirates has already been underway for several months to establish a tent camp free from Hamas rule. The office emphasized that utility works will be supervised by the IDF rather than Gaza-based contractors.
