Israel approves thousands of West Bank homes and plans Jenin military base

The Israeli government approved a plan to construct 2,162 new housing units in the occupied West Bank, including 1,006 homes in the Gvaot settlement. The Palestinian Authority condemned the move, urging the United States to intervene and warning that the expansion could raise tensions further.

Israel also announced the expropriation of land in the al‑Qabriyat area of Jenin to build a military base. Palestinian officials said the decision breaches existing accords, endangers civilians and could lead to additional displacement and restrictions on daily life. Local leaders highlighted damage to infrastructure and the broader impact on the already strained Israeli‑Palestinian situation.
