Israel becomes Morocco's second-largest arms supplier
Israel has emerged as Morocco’s second-largest arms supplier, accounting for 24% of the Kingdom’s military imports. This shift follows the normalization of diplomatic relations via the Abraham Accords in December 2020. The partnership has evolved from sporadic purchases to institutionalized long-term cooperation involving intelligence sharing, military training, and logistics.
As part of this strategic deepening, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces are reportedly studying the acquisition of the LORA system, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The goal is to integrate this long-range missile with Morocco’s existing American HIMARS rocket systems. While the current HIMARS configuration reaches targets up to 300 kilometers, the LORA system could extend that range to between 400 and 500 kilometers with high precision.
The LORA is a 1,600 kg ground-to-ground ballistic missile guided by GPS/INS. IAI is expected to officially present the system to Moroccan authorities at the upcoming Marrakech aeronautics salon, potentially accelerating discussions regarding an integration contract.
