Israel conducts strikes in Gaza as Netanyahu launches election campaign

Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in further casualties, including children and high-ranking militant leaders. Recent strikes in areas such as Jabalia and Rafah killed several Palestinians, including Ahmad al-Batsha, a commander of Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades, and Nail Abu Ubaid, a senior Hamas commander. Medical officials reported that strikes on vehicles and refugee camps in areas like Sheikh Radwan and Mawasi have caused numerous deaths and injuries.

Amid the ongoing conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has launched a campaign for his Likud party ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27. Netanyahu stated that his leadership is essential to ensure Israel’s security and to achieve the total destruction of Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as the downfall of the Iranian regime.

Netanyahu faces significant political challenges, including ongoing corruption trials and recent polling that shows his Likud party trailing behind the opposition led by former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in an estimated 73,800 Palestinian deaths according to local authorities.
