The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a surprise nationwide military exercise titled ‘Breaking Dawn 2.0’ to test its readiness for a sudden, large-scale, and complex multi-front conflict. Directed by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the drill involves the General Staff, regional commands, and various branches to evaluate decision-making, operational response, and the mobilization of reserve forces.

The exercise incorporates lessons learned from the October 7 attacks and recent combat across multiple fronts. It aims to strengthen command-and-control systems and ensure the military can handle simultaneous emergencies. While the drill includes significant movements of security forces and aircraft across the country, the IDF stated there is no immediate fear of a real security incident occurring during the training.

In addition to the nationwide drill, large-scale maneuvers are being conducted in the Eilat and Arava regions near the Jordanian border. Led by the 80th Division, these exercises simulate various infiltration scenarios via land, sea, and air to enhance the defense of border communities. The timing of these exercises coincides with the upcoming Jewish High Holidays and follows recent intelligence reports regarding potential regional threats.
